• Around the world, young people, educators, and communities are facing extraordinary and interconnected challenges, including climate change and environmental instability, deepening socioeconomic inequalities, the rapid rise of AI and digital technologies that are reshaping relationships and learning, and a growing crisis of wellbeing, social isolation, and disconnection.

At Fora Education, we believe that education is the foundation for inclusive, resilient, and sustainable societies — and that true transformation happens when we center wellbeing, belonging, and creative voice alongside learning.

  • Fora Education supports and connects global initiatives designed to reimagine education and community impact, including:

    Creative storytelling for social impact

Empowering youth and educators to document local stories, create films, engage through music, and use media as tools for inclusion, healing, and advocacy. Fora Films supports filmmaking at all levels.

    Sustainability & global citizenship programs

Equipping students and teachers to understand and act on environmental challenges through local and global lenses.

    Inclusion & belonging initiatives

Designing programs and leadership trainings that promote equity, disability inclusion, and culturally responsive education.

Digital and AI futures in education

Exploring how AI and digital tools can support — or disrupt — learning, relationships, and wellbeing, and supporting educators and students to navigate these shifts.

    Mental health & wellbeing frameworks

Integrating social-emotional learning, mindfulness, and community care to build happier, healthier school environments.

  • From classrooms in Bhutan to community workshops in the United States, Fora Education’s work supports educators, policymakers, and young leaders in creating local solutions with global resonance.

    Research

We specialize in designing and implementing research that has a social impact, with a commitment to empowering participant voices, telling powerful stories through data, and exploring the complexities of social systems. We are experts in both qualitative and quantitative methods and tools, including the use of mapping and GIS-enabled data collection for data visualization.

Examples: Meaningful Social Engagement for Persons with Disabilities in Bhutan (UK GCRF); Education in Emergencies: Africa Case Studies (GCE); Research Capacity, Training, and Culture in South Asian Universities (World Bank); Rapid Disability Assessment Practices in Humanitarian Settings (Light for the World); Situational Analysis of Children with Disabilities in Indonesia (UNICEF/Altamont Group); Digital Transformation of Education in the Asia-Pacific Region in the Context of Post-COVID-19 (UNESCO-Bangkok/Altamont Group)

    Technical Support

Fora Education offers support for teachers, schools, governments, and civil society organizations. Technical support can take many forms, from a short-term consultancy to generate design solutions in schools and school systems, or a formative evaluation of education policy implementation, to a long-term relationship that persistently works towards critically understanding and overcoming complex educational and societal barriers.

Examples: Lead Evaluator for the USAID Esho Shikhi activity in Bangladesh (Encompass); Family Literacy consultation for the Rochester Public Schools; Consultant for USAID STEP-Up Zambia (University of Minnesota); Technical Consultant, UNICEF-Jamaica School to Work Transition Programme (Inclusive Development Partners)

    Teacher and School Leadership Training

In addition to running teacher and school workshops, we also provide training to government officials, politicians, and other professionals on topics such as inclusion and diversity in education, human rights in education, research-informed practice, policy evaluation and implementation, and universal design for learning.

Examples: Friends Beyond Labels (Hong Leong Foundation, Malaysia); Transforming the Education System for Teachers and Students in Liberia (USAID/Inclusive Development Partners); Enhancing Mental Health, Counseling, and Wellbeing Support for University Students in Bhutan (European Union)

    Education Products and Services

Fora Education believes in making educational products that are affordable, usable, and research-informed. The development of our products and services is done collaboratively with teachers and school professionals, and includes curriculum, lesson plans, case studies, and other educational materials.

Examples: Transitioning from School to Adulthood (National Down Syndrome Society, USA); Gender-Responsive Pedagogy for TVET Toolkit (VVOB/Altamont Group); Community Engagement Toolkit in Singapore (US Embassy-Singapore)

    Film Production

Fora Education produces and creates films through Fora Films. We believe in harnessing the power of movies to tell stories of the marginalized and underrepresented, translating research into public impact, and seeking solutions to challenges of sustainability and inclusion. We also engage youth in the filmmaking process.

Example: Dreams of Birds Flying in the Sky (2021), an international award-winning documentary featuring, for the first time, the lives of persons with disabilities in Bhutan.

The Challenge

Other Priority Areas and Potential Projects:

1️⃣ Inclusive Pedagogies for the AI Era

Gap/Need: As AI tools rapidly enter classrooms, teachers often lack frameworks to use them inclusively — especially for students with disabilities, multilingual learners, and marginalized groups.
Possible Initiative:

  • Create a teacher training program or resource hub on "Inclusive AI Pedagogies," co-designed with educators and students.

  • Include guidelines on bias, accessibility (e.g., AI-generated content for low-vision or neurodiverse students), and ways to ensure human connection remains central.

  • Could lead to policy briefs, practical toolkits, and school partnerships.

2️⃣ Sustainability Education through Local Community Stories

Gap/Need: Many sustainability programs are abstract and global; students often feel disconnected.
Possible Initiative:

  • Develop place-based sustainability curricula, integrating local environmental stories and challenges (e.g., water scarcity, land use, indigenous ecological practices).

  • Could include community-based participatory research where students document local environmental knowledge, possibly through short films (tying into Fora Films).

3️⃣ Mental Health and Digital Wellbeing Interventions

Gap/Need: Digital devices and social media can exacerbate stress, social comparison, and disconnection among students and teachers. Many schools lack holistic digital wellbeing strategies.
Possible Initiative:

  • Design a "Digital Wellbeing Toolkit" for schools, addressing healthy tech use, mindfulness, and community building.

  • Pilot school-based wellbeing after-school "tech detox" initiatives for teachers and students.

  • Include metrics and research components to evaluate impact.

5️⃣ AI and Ethical Citizenship

Gap/Need: Students are using AI (e.g., ChatGPT, image generators), but often without guidance on ethics, digital citizenship, or creative integrity.
Possible Initiative:

  • Develop workshops or courses on "AI, Creativity, and Ethics," including case studies, student co-design sessions, and community showcases.

  • Could be paired with storytelling or filmmaking components (e.g., students create short films exploring ethical dilemmas posed by AI).

6️⃣ Inclusive Leadership for Green and Digital Futures

Gap/Need: School leaders often lack support in integrating inclusive, sustainable, and tech-forward strategies.
Possible Initiative:

  • Create a professional leadership fellowship or network focused on inclusive, sustainable, and digital transformation in education.

  • Include mentorship, study visits, and collaborative problem-solving labs.
