Community Engagement Toolkit

About

This online toolkit was designed by Fora Education in collaboration with the University of Minnesota’s Institute on Community Integration, the National Institute of Education Singapore, and an international advisory team related to the Transition in Singapore project.

The purpose of this online tool is to assist youth with disabilities to engage in the community in a meaningful way, while also learning about themselves and their identities and preferences. The tool will take the participant through a series of prompts that ask the participant to explore various areas and places in their communities, create multimedia as a form of self-expression, and inform their opinions that can help them self-advocate for meaningful community engagement. This tool is suggested for use with a youth with a disability alongside a friend, support person, teacher, family member, or other trusted person that can both help facilitate the data collection, as well as help facilitate the logistics of community engagement.

The data that is generated by the participant will only be seen by Fora Education and other direct project personnel, participating school personnel, and then only those that the participant themselves designate. If data is to be shared beyond those groups, i.e. publicly, the participant will be fully anonymized and will also have to give their permission first. Participants (and their families) will only be able to see their own data, not anyone else’s data.

Instructions

Please answer every prompt at least once.

Each of the ten prompts can have multiple answers. You can skip around and answer different prompts in a different order, or on different days.

It is important that you actually go to the places listed in each prompt to be able to take photos, video, and location information. As you are in the community, be sure to note any inclusive or non-inclusive places and document them using the KoBo collector embedded on each page.

Do not forget to put your initials at the top of the KoBo form as your Participant ID. Use the same Participant ID every time.

Remember to allow the data collector to use your location.
